I am Ashley Hotsinpiller, married to Dustin Hotsinpiller. Dustin and I founded this race in 2011, and we are proud parents of three sons: Landon, Liam, and Logan. Balancing work, our children’s activities, and daily life keeps us busy, but whenever we have some spare moments, we enjoy traveling. Our favorite destination is the most Magical Place on Earth, Disney!
I serve as the race coordinator for the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K, responsible for overseeing all aspects of event planning and organization from start to finish. Additionally, I handle social media management for the foundation and race, as well as maintaining our website and designing our printed/marketing materials.
This race holds immense importance to me for several reasons. Firstly, Law Enforcement holds a special place in our family. My husband serves as a US Marshal, his father was a lieutenant at our local Police Department, and my brother-in-law also served as a deputy US Marshal.
Unfortunately, we experienced the heartbreaking loss of both my father-in-law in 2001 and my brother-in-law in a line-of-duty incident in 2011. The impact of these losses on our family cannot be overstated. During those challenging times, we received an overwhelming amount of love and support, inspiring us to give back.
In 2011, shortly after Derek’s passing, the concept of the scholarship fund emerged and gained traction. Dustin and I quickly decided to ensure its sustainability by setting up a way to fund it for years to come. Thus, the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K was born. This event not only commemorates Jim’s and Derek’s lives but also honors all the officers who lost their lives that year and in the subsequent years. It has transformed into a beautiful tribute to all our fallen law enforcement officers’ lives and sacrifices.
In my 22 years as a police wife, I’ve realized that this profession is more than just a job; it’s a genuine calling of the heart. The dedication of the men and women who protect and serve our communities deserve the utmost admiration and respect.
Our ongoing mission is to express our gratitude to all our officers, whether currently serving, retired, or those who made the ultimate sacrifice, through the initiatives of our foundation and the organization of this race. These activities allow us to provide grants and scholarships to both support and honor them, ensuring the future of law enforcement.
I feel incredibly honored to play an active role in upholding this cause. I strongly believe that Jim and Derek would be proud of the work we are doing to honor the brotherhood they cherished so much. We will continue to serve this mission as long as God permits.
